McCarver Earns a Double-Double in Near Upset Of Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - IPFW women's basketball freshman KeShyra McCarver earned a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds in her first college game, as the Mastodons nearly knocked off Big Ten opponent Illinois on the road, falling 70-63.
McCarver's 14 rebounds are tied for the seventh most in a game by an IPFW freshman. She also made 11-of-12 at the free throw line, which are fourth and sixth most by a freshman, respectively.
Courtney Ogle capped off her night with a career-high 15 points on five three-pointers, to go along with tying career-highs with two blocks and two steals. Haley Seibert also finished in double-digits with 14 points, connecting on four shots from long range, and adding four assists.
In her first game since January 10, 2013, senior Hillary Moore tied a career-high with nine rebounds and scored six points.
Seibert knocked down her first shot of the season, a three, to give the Mastodons a 3-2 lead in the early minutes. IPFW led by as many as eight points in the first half, before Ogle connected on her second trey of the game with 15 seconds left, giving the 'Dons a 32-26 lead at halftime. In the first half alone, the two teams exchanged nine lead changes.
Illinois opened the second half with an 11-3 run to lead by two with 16 minutes to play.
McCarver took the lead back for the Mastodons with a three-point play with 14:29 left. After Seibert hit another three to give the 'Dons a 45-41 lead, the Illini went on a 14-3 run and IPFW never led again.
The Mastodons fought their way back with six straight points, tying the score at 62-62 with 2:14 left in the game on Ogle's fifth bucket from downtown. From there, Illinois out-scored the 'Dons 8-1 to snatch the victory in the final minutes.
IPFW finished the night shooting 18-of-54, including 11-of-30 on three-pointers, and 16-of-23 at the charity stripe. The Mastodons held the Illini without a three in the game, as they shot 0-for-21. The 'Dons also out-rebounded Illinois 49-44.
IPFW opens the home portion of its season against Grace for its annual fitness day on November 18 at 11:30 a.m.
