Carter and Bunch Combine for Eight Three-Pointers in Loss

ROCHESTER, Mich. - With the score tied 73-73 and 2:42 left on the clock, the IPFW women's basketball team was unable to connect on a bucket down the stretch as the Mastodons fell at Oakland 81-74.
The 'Dons were led by Kamilah Carter with 23 points and four assists. Allyson Bunch came off the bench for the first time this season and scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers. KeShyra McCarver and De'Jour Young both went for nine points on the day. Keanna Gary led the Mastodons with six rebounds while Isis Parker grabbed five.
IPFW fell behind early as the Golden Grizzlies began the game on a 15-3 advantage. The second quarter saw the Mastodons chip away at the lead as Carter connected on a three with 5:31 to go to bring the 'Dons to within four. Bunch scored 11 points in the final 4:28 of the second quarter, including a triple with 30 seconds to go, giving IPFW a 41-40 halftime lead.
The third quarter was tightly contested as the teams exchanged six leads and five ties. The largest Mastodon lead of the game came as Josie Fisher connected for a layup on the opening possession to lead 43-40. Oakland closed out the period with a layup, tying the score 58-58.
Oakland and IPFW exchanged baskets in the early minutes of the final quarter, as the score was tied seven times in the period. Parker tied the game on a layup for the 'Dons with 2:42 to play, but that would be the final field goal for the team as the Golden Grizzlies scored the next five points to take the game.
On the afternoon, the Mastodons shot 23-of-64 (35.9%) from the field, 9-of-25 (36%) from downtown, and 19-of-25 (76%) at the free throw line.
IPFW returns to action on December 28 when the 'Dons travel to Milwaukee for their final non-league game of the season. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. ET.
