Jaqua and Johnson Earn Double-Double In Pair Of Losses

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - It was a tough start to the Holiday Inn Classic for the IPFW women's volleyball team as it fell to Murray State 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-19) and Eastern Michigan (25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 28-26).
In the opener against Murray State, the Mastodons scored the opening point but the Racers scored the next seven as the 'Dons were unable to come back. In set number two, an 8-1 MSU run gave them the victory. Trailing 14-10 in the third frame, IPFW dropped five consecutive points as Murray took the final set and the match.
Somer Johnson led the 'Dons with 10 kills in the match. Madison Jaqua dished out 17 assists to go along with eight digs. Olivia Hahn had a match-high 14 digs for the 'Dons.
In the afternoon match, IPFW took an early 6-2 lead in the first set before Eastern Michigan took the lead for good on the heels of a 5-1 run. With the second set tie 20-20, the Mastodons scored five of the final six points, three of which came off swings from Nicole Rightnowar. EMU scored the first two points of the third set as the 'Dons were unable to overcome the early deficit. The final set saw neither team hold larger than a three-point lead as the two sides were tied 14 times and exchanged six leads. IPFW fought back late to take a 24-23 lead, but the Eagles scored back-to-back points to close out the match.
Johnson and Jaqua each finished with their third double-double of the year. Johnson tied a match-high with 19 kills to go along with 15 digs and a team-high three blocks. Jaqua ended the afternoon with a season- and match-high 52 assists and made 15 digs.
Rightnowar tallied a season-high 17 kills while Sarah Heckman tied a career-high with 15 and hit a team best .423. Hahn had a match-high 23 digs for the Mastodons.
IPFW closes out the Holiday Inn Classic tomorrow, September 12, against UT Martin at 9 a.m. and Indiana State at 7 p.m.
