Dan Mathews
- Induction:
- 2011
- Class:
- 1998
Hard throwing Dan Mathews was one of the finest pitcher's in IPFW baseball history. Mathews played just two years in Blue and White as a junior college transfer, but made an instant and longing impact. Mathews tossed the only documented no-hitter in IPFW history, a 2-0 win over Butler University on April 14, 1998.
During his two-years, Mathews averaged a strikeout an inning in 131.1 innings of work. His 13 wins place him second All-Time in IPFW history. In 21 career appearances, Mathews compiled an ERA of 3.71.
For his efforts, he was named First-Team All-GLVC in 1998. Later that summer, he would go on to make IPFW baseball history by being the first Mastodon ever selected in the Major League Baseball Draft (28th round by Milwaukee). Mathews played professionally until 2002. During that time he was named a Pioneer League All-Star.
