Fred Malcolm is a two-time NCAA All-America, being honored in 1990 and 1991. Malcolm is a four-time All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Conference selection. He was named MIVA Player of the Year in 1991. In 1990 he was named IPFW Co-Male Athlete of the Year and took sole possession of that honor in 1991. Malcolm also competed in the U.S. Olympic Festival, taking home a Gold Medal in 1985 and 1986 and a Silver Medal in 1987. He is currently third on IPFW's All-Time kills list with 1,912. Malcolm is also second All-Time on the kills per season list with 701.
