Loren "LJ" Gebert was a four-year letter winner and two year captain for the IPFW men's volleyball team. Gebert was an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Honorable Mention in 1985. He was named to the AVCA All-America 3rd Team in 1986. These are special honors because Gebert was the first Mastodon to be recognized by the AVCA. He was an All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) in 1984, 1985, and 1986. After graduation, Gebert played professionally in Italy for two years. He continues to be involved in the sport as a player and referee.
