Akron, OH - Junior forward Sinisa Ubiparipovic scored a pair of goals, and assisted on another, as the 10th ranked Akron Zips topped IPFW, 3-0 Sunday in Ohio.
It was the MAC opener for both squads. IPFW's defense was bolstered by the return of sophomore netminder Michael Knitter. Knitter made five saves in the match.
Ubiparipovic assisted on Akron's first goal at the 21:18 mark. Pablo Moreira's roller just got past an outstretched Knitter. The IPFW netminder got a hand on the ball, but it just broke the plane of the goal line.
Ubiparipovic made it 2-0 in the 37th minute, taking advantage of an IPFW foul, and converting a direct kick from about 18 yards out.
The score remained 2-0 until late in the match when Ubiparipovic converted a rebound for his fifth goal of the season.
Akron has now won six straight games since losing its season opener. IPFW is still looking for their first win of the season after seven contests.
The Mastodons will look to crack the win column on Wednesday (9/20) at Detroit.
