Mastodons Sweep Competition at Omni William Penn Invite

Pittsburgh, PA - IPFW Women's Volleyball finished the 2006 Omni William Penn Invite 4-0. Senior Claire Jackson was named Tournament MVP while senior Amanda Pfister and junior Cynara Martins were named to the All-Tournament Team. The Mastodons defeated St. Francis (PA) 3-0 in the afternoon and Duquesne 3-2 in the nightcap.

It was a back and forth battle during the nightcap for the Mastodons. Duquesne took games one and four to force a fifth where the 'Dons fought hard and held on to their lead for the win. The Mastodons won by final scores of 28-30, 30-22, 30-13, 23-30, and 15-8. IPFW improved to 4-4 after the sweep of the competition.
Martins led the charge for the 'Dons recording a double-double with 20 kills and 18 digs. Martins added to her numbers with one block solo and three block assists.
Frosh Rebekah Roehm hit an impressive .459 with 18 kills on 37 swings with only one error. She also posted four block assists.
Pfister rounded out the 'Dons hitting, finishing with a double-double of her own with 15 kills and 20 digs.
Jessica Dominiak posted 58 assists for the match, a personal best. Peachy Jankowski led the 'Dons in digs with 26 and service aces with 2.
Blocking was Jackson forte as she posted three solos and six assists in the five game match. Overall the 'Dons out blocked the Dukes 14 to 8.
The Dukes were led by Amanda Haeg on the offense with 18 kills. Lindsay Hess led in digs with 23 and Chelsea Tillotson finished with 33 assists for Duquesne.
The Mastodons return home on Tuesday, September 5th at 7 pm as they host the Toledo Rockets at the Gates Center.
