Orlando, FL -IPFW women's cross country had another exceptional meet this past Saturday at the Disney Classic. The 'Dons placed second in a field of 35 teams, losing only to BYU. The 'Dons have now placed third or better in four of their five meets.
IPFW was led by Ashley Ritchey (Leo, IN/Leo) who finished 5th of 287 runners with a time of 18:01. Also supporting the 'Dons scoring effort were Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) finishing 20th, Crystina Martinez (Valparaiso, IN/Wheeler) in 22nd place, Crystal Martinez at 28th (Valparaiso, IN/Wheeler), and Val Hardesty (Auburn, IN/DeKalb) finished 37th.
On the women's outstanding performance, Coach Mike Fruchey commented, "This is the type of performance that I expected and that I know the women can give each and every week."
In other news, the women's cross country team is still ranked 13th in the NCAA Great Lakes Region Rankings.
IPFW cross country will be back in action next Saturday, October 14, for the Falcon Invitational in Bowling Green, OH.
