
No. 10 IPFW Advances to MIVA Semi-Final

Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW powered its way to a MIVA Semi-Final date with Loyola-Chicago, on Saturday night, with a 3-0 sweep of Mercyhurst in conference playoff action at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center.
It was all business from the start for the Mastodons who held Mercyhurst to just nine points in the opening set. The 30-9 win was the largest single game margin of victory for IPFW in the rally scoring era.
The 'Dons finished the sweep with scores of 30-20 and 30-22.
Junior outside hitter, and 2007 MIVA first teamer, C.J. Macias led the Mastodons offensive effort with 15 kills, while slugging .545.
Just on Macias' heels was junior opposite Jason Yhost, who put down 13 balls on .529 swinging. Yhost also fired of four of IPFW's nine service aces in the match.
Tim Wagner led the Lakers (2-23) with eight kills.
IPFW out-hit the 'Hurst .447 to .025 and out-blocked the Green and Blue 9.5 to 2.0.
As mentioned, IPFW will advance to face Loyola-Chicago in the MIVA Semi-Finals on Thursday evening in Columbus, Ohio. The 11th ranked Ramblers advanced with a 3-0 win over Quincy on Friday night.
IPFW (20-7) owns a 2-0 advantage over Loyola this season, but both matches were tight five set affairs early in the year.
Match time on Thursday is 5:00pm.
