Fort Wayne, IN - The final match of the MAC Men's Tennis Championship came down to the singles matches. Western Michigan clinched four to win back-to-back MAC Men's Tennis Championships.
Ball State took the doubles point after Joe Epkey and Jose Perdomo won at #1, 8-2 and Jarrod Epkey and Jorge Rodriguez won at #2, 8-3. Ball State led the match 1-0 going into singles.
In singles, WMU tied the match up after Kevin Hayward won at #3, 6-2, 6-2. Bryan Norville gave the Broncos the lead after winning at #6. Ball State's Joe Epkey tied the match up at 2 after winning 7-5, 7-5 at #1.
Ball State took a 3-2 lead with Jose Perdomo defeating Brady Crosby at #2, 7-6(7), 6-4.
Bret Berryman (BSU) and Alex Birchmeier (WMU) took it to three sets with Birchmeier taking the point.
The match came down to #5 singles with Joe Vallee of Ball State and John Pelton of Western. Vallee took the first set but Pelton rallied, taking the next two sets for the win.
This is Western Michigan's third title in the last four years.
