
No. 10 IPFW Wins Third Straight, 3-1 over Lewis

Romeoville, IL - IPFW used torrid hitting and a brick-wall defensive effort to top Lewis University 3-1 in MIVA action on Thursday night.
The Mastodons and Flyers were locked in a struggle in the first three sets with IPFW winning the first two by the scores of 30-26 and 31-29. Lewis came back to take the third 31-29, and then IPFW went on a tear blasting the Flyers 30-14 in the fourth.
The Mastodons had five players hit for double-digit kills in the match. Junior All-America outside hitter C.J. Macias led the quintet with 15. Junior opposite Brock Ullrich registered a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs on .448 hitting.
Junior middle hitter Josh Stewart put together a unique double-double with 12 kills and 12 block assists. He also had a solo block and a service ace for a team-high 20 points.
Stewart was joined in the middle by senior Vitor Oliveira who had 11 kills (.667) and six block assists. Opposite Jason Yhost was the final 'Don in the double-digit hit parade with 11 kills. Yhost added six block assists to IPFW's total of 19.0 team blocks.
Freshman libero Matt Pliske refused to let a ball hit the floor during the match. Pliske had a match-high 18 digs.
Senior setter Colin Lundeen ran the 'Dons offense well with 54 assists. He also had three kills and seven block assists.
On the night, IPFW hit .333
Lewis was led by Drew Pickering with 15 kills and 14 digs. Jared Dayton also pitched in 15 kills.
IPFW has now won its last three conference matches to raise their MIVA mark to 7-3 (16-7 overall).
The 'Dons will have Friday to rest before a match with conference rival Ball State on Saturday night at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center.
IPFW will honor its five seniors before the match at 7pm.
