Fort Wayne, IN - Oral Roberts used a late 14-2 run to put away IPFW, 68-56 in a Thursday afternoon Summit League contest at the Memorial Coliseum.
The Mastodons and Golden Eagles were tied at 54 with just over five minutes remaining in the game.
ORU senior guard Adam Liberty hit a huge 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Golden Eagles a 58-54 advantage.
Oral Roberts made eight of their final 10 foul shots down the stretch to pull away for their fourth victory in the Summit League.
It was apparent, early on, that ORU would look to the inside for their scoring and, it worked well in the opening half.
ORU senior center Shawn King hit 6-8 from the floor and had 14 first-half points as the Golden Eagles led by 10 at the half, 36-26.
IPFW came out on fire in the second half. Junior forward David Carson got a couple of buckets in the paint and senior forward DeWitt Scott drained a triple, all part of a 17-4 run giving the 'Dons a 43-30 lead.
From the 12:00 mark to the 5:09 mark, neither squad held more than a four-point advantage. That is when ORU went on their final push to win the game.
The Golden Eagles (9-5, 4-0) were led by King who finished with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds. He also had seven blocked shots. Junior guard Robert Jarvis added 13 points, while Liberty chipped in 11.
IPFW (5-11, 2-3) was led by senior forward Jaraun Burrows, who registered his fourth double-double of the season, with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Carson was the only other Mastodon in double digits with 12 points.
Oral Roberts outrebounded the 'Dons, 40-31.
The Golden Eagles shot 42.3% from the floor, while IPFW had an off-shooting afternoon, hitting on only 34.5% of their attempts.
IPFW returns to Summit League action on Saturday evening in the nightcap of a women's/men's double-header at the Coliseum. The IPFW women's basketball team will host Centenary in the opener at 4:00 p.m. while the men's squad hosts the Gents in the finale of the twin-bill at 7:00 p.m.
