Fargo, ND - Junior forward Brett Winkelman and junior guard Mike Nelson scored 24 and 22 points, respectively as the North Dakota State Bison handled IPFW, 94-67 in Summit League action on Thursday night at the Bison Sports Center.
The loss was the first for the Mastodons in Summit League play.
North Dakota State (8-6, 2-1) came out on fire, hitting 63.3% from the field in the opening stanza.
After taking an early 10-7 lead on a jumper by senior forward Jaraun Burrows, it was all Bison.
A pair of successive layups by Nelson gave North Dakota State a 17-point lead.
The Bison pushed that advantage to 25 on a 3-pointer from Nelson with just 5:17 left in the half.
Freshman guard Zach Plackemeier drained a triple with :08 on the clock, but the damage had already been done as NDSU took a 48-28 lead to the lockerroom.
IPFW (5-9, 2-1) made a modest run out of the gate in the second half. Following a couple of buckets from Burrows and 3-pointers from freshman guard Ben Botts and senior forward DeWitt Scott, IPFW had cut the lead to 12.
But, Winkelman drained a triple at the 10:15 mark giving NDSU a 29-point, 75-46 cushion, and they cruised the rest of the way.
It was the 16th consecutive home win at the Bison Sports Center for North Dakota State.
Five Bison scored in double-digits on the evening.
Senior forward Jaraun Burrows and junior forward David Carson each tossed in 16 points for the 'Dons. Burrows added nine rebounds and six assists. Carson hauled down eight boards.
North Dakota State finished the evening shooting 61.3%, by far the best against the Mastodons this season.
IPFW picked up their shooting in the second half (58.3%), finishing the night at 47.2%.
Another problems for the 'Dons...turnovers. The Mastodons gave up the rock 19 times.
IPFW will continue it's two-game conference road trip on Saturday night at South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits dropped a heartbreaking, 73-72 decision to Oakland on Thursday night.
Game time is 8:30 p.m.
