
'Dons Drop Gritty Game to Grizzlies

Fort Wayne, IN -- The IPFW men's soccer squad dropped an intense match to the visiting Grizzlies from Oakland University Friday night.
The Mastodons fell to the visiting Oakland squad 1-0 after the match remained scoreless until the 74th minute. Wade Allan netted the goal for the Grizzlies after the 'Dons Michael Knitter was pulled away from the left post in an attempt to recover the ball. Allan was assisted by Sebastian Harris.
The 'Dons 2-9-2 (0-3-1 Summit League) started the first period very aggressively taking four of the first six shots. Oakland 9-4-0 (3-1-0 Summit League) then capitalized on a quick start in the second half out-shooting the 'Dons 9-4 in the second period.
IPFW was led by Liridon Qafleshi, Mitchell Haifley and Colin Helmrich who each took two shots and had a shot on goal. Jorge Ramirez and Chris Dolinski also had shots on goal.
The Grizzlies were led by Makesi Lewis and Stefan St. Louis with five shots apiece. St. Louis also had three shots on goal. Oakland, clawing for momentum in the second half won the shots and shots on goal categories 18-11, and 8-5 respectively.
Senior Michael Knitter grabbed seven saves compared to Oakland's Steve Clark who had five.
IPFW now takes a two match hiatus from the Summit League competition as they play at Valparaiso and Detroit.
The 'Dons next play at non-conference foe Valparaiso on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. ET.
