
Carson's Buzzer Beater Tops Eastern Illinois

Charleston,IL - David Carson hit a 15 foot jumper with 0.7 seconds left in regulation to give IPFW a thrilling 76-74 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday night at Lantz Arena.
Eastern Illinois junior guard Romain Martin had just tied the game with a desperation triple with :11 second to go for the Panthers.
IPFW inbounded the ball, sophomore guard Zach Plachemeier drove the ball up the floor and hit Carson, who took a dribble and sank the game winner.
EIU had a final shot, but Martin's three-quarter court heave was well short.
IPFW led 39-34 at the half and led by as many as nine in the second half before Eastern Illinois made their run at the end.
Martin led the Panthers (1-4) with a game-high 26 points. T.J. Marion and Billy Parrish added 15 and 14, respectively.
Carson led the Mastodons (3-2) with 24 points. He was 12-14 from the foul line. IPFW sophomore guard Ben Botts added 15, while junior guard Nick Daniels and Plackemeier added 13 and 12.
It was the third consecutive game that IPFW has hit nine 3-pointers. IPFW shot 51.0% from the floor, but was outrebounded by the Panthers, 38-27.
With the win, IPFW is 3-2 for the first time since turning Division I in the 2001-02 season.
Up next for the Mastodons, who have won three straight, is Ball State. The 'Dons host the Cardinals on Monday night at the Coliseum. Tip-off is 7:00 p.m.
