Shreveport, LA - Playing their best half of basketball this year, IPFW raced out to a 26-point halftime lead on the way to a season sweep of Centenary College, 65-44 on Thursday night at the Gold Dome.
It was the first time the Mastodons have won on the road this season, and they did it in memorable fashion.
IPFW raced out to a, 21-4 lead at the beginning of the ball game as junior forward David Carson hit three consecutive jumpers.
Good things continued to come in threes as senior forward DeWitt Scott pushed the 'Dons lead to, 32-7 with three straight triples.
Senior point guard Demetrius Johnson knocked down a 17-foot jumper as time expired in the first half, giving the Mastodons a, 41-15 halftime edge.
The 'Dons shot 60.9% in the opening half, while holding the Gentlemen to just 21.4% from the floor.
Centenary made it interesting at the beginning of the second half. The Gents reeled off 10 straight points, seven from Lance Hill, cutting the 'Dons lead to 16.
IPFW's cold-spell was snapped 6:32 into the frame on a layup by freshman guard Zach Plackemeier. That bucket seemed to get the Mastodons back on track.
Scott knocked down a jumper with his toe on the three-point line to make it, 49-30, and on the next trip up the floor, senior forward Jaraun Burrows grabbed a defensive rebound, drove coast-to-coast, and dished off to junior guard Jakari Johnson who threw down a rim-rattling one-hand slam to effectively squash the Gents comeback.
Carson registered his first double-double with IPFW. The Oakland University transfer had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Scott tied Carson for team-high on the night with 13 points of his own. They were the only two 'Dons in double-figures on a night where the team got balanced scoring.
Hill led Centenary (9-14, 3-8 SL) with a game-high 14 points.
IPFW finished the night shooting 51.1% from the floor, while Centenary was held to just 26.3% from the field.
The Mastodons also won the battle of the boards, 38-34.
With the win, IPFW's third in-a-row and fifth in the last seven games, the Mastodons improve to 10-13 and 7-5 in the Summit League. IPFW now stands tied in third place with Oakland University. Both teams trail second place IUPUI (10-2) and first place Oral Roberts (11-0).
It is the third time in Head Coach Dane Fife's three-year run at the helm of the program that the team has registered double-digit wins. Fife also moved into a tie for fifth place on the All-Time Coaching win's list with 32.
IPFW will now travel to Oral Roberts to take on the Golden Eagles. ORU remained perfect in Summit League play on Thursday night with a, 60-53 win over Oakland.
Tipoff is 8:00 p.m.
