
Mastodons Drop Twinbill to ORU

Fort Wayne, IN - Oral Roberts starter Carlos Luna improved to 12-0, and 15-0 all-time at ORU, with a 4-2 game one win over IPFW on Friday afternoon at Mastodons Field.
The Golden Eagles also won the nightcap of the double header, 9-1 eliminating IPFW from the Summit League playoff chase.
Luna tossed seven complete, giving up two runs on seven hits. He struck out seven Mastodons and walked four.
Luna got some early run support from the long ball. In the 2nd inning, first baseman Michael Notaro drilled a solo shot out to right off of IPFW starter Chad Nielsen.
In the 3rd inning, ORU went on top, 3-0 on a two-run homer from left fielder Brian Van Kirk. It was Van Kirk's 15th round-tripper of the season.
IPFW would battle back with singles runs in the fifth and seventh on sacrifice flies from center fielder Jared Davis and first baseman Shaun VanDriessche, but the Golden Eagles added an insurance run in the ninth to win it, 4-2.
T.J. Kelly came on to pitch the final two innings for his ninth save of the year.
Oral Roberts scored nine runs on 10 hits in Game 2 and got a compete game win from sophomore Jerry Sullivan.
Sullivan struck out five and didn't walk a batter in improving to 8-2.
IPFW starter Stacy Herrold took the loss. In 5.0 innings, Herrold gave up eight runs (six earned) on eight hits.
Oral Roberts improves to 42-12 and 23-4 in the Summit League with the sweep, while IPFW falls to 14-35-1 and 10-16.
IPFW will host ORU in its final regular season game Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
