Fort Wayne, IN -- IPFW's Raphael Martinez scored on a penalty kick in the 78th minute Friday night to tie the visiting Bulldogs from Drake 1-1.
Both goals were scored in the second half of the exhibition match, which was during day two of the National Soccer Festival. Over 3,000 people were in attendance to see the teams tie.
Drake's lone goal was the only offense to come from 13 shots and five shots-on-goal. The netter was scored by midfield senior Ryan Moylan in the 55th minute. IPFW took only six shots and had two shots-on-goal with the goal coming from Martinez as a result of a Drake foul inside the keeper's box.
Senior Michael Knitter did his share of keeping the goal, as he totaled four saves logging all 90 minutes. Others taking shots for the Mastodons in the contest were Kevin Crombie, Jorge Ramirez, Marcel Garcia, and Aaron Tulloch.
Next up for the men's soccer squad is the regular season opener against St. Joseph's (Ind.), Friday, August 29 at the Hefner Soccer Complex. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
