Indianapolis, IN- Competing for the final time this season, the IPFW women's soccer team fell 1-0 to IUPUI on Sunday at Kuntz Field in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Mastodons close the 2009 season with a 4-12-1 record, 3-6 in conference play. Despite the loss, the 'Dons still hold the all-time series lead between the two teams, which now stands at 4-3-1. The Jaguars will continue its 2009 season, as they have clinched a berth for the Summit League tournament next week in Fargo, North Dakota.
On offense, IPFW fired nine shots on Sunday, four being on goal. IUPUI made 14 shot attempts, with nine on goal.
Lisa Underwood led the `Dons with two shots, while Tyler Allison, Arianne Mason, Tara O'Toole, Brittany Climmons, Rhea Proctor, Lauren McCracken and Brittni Roy all fired a shot apiece. Mastodon goalkeeper Kristen McFadden had another busy day in between the posts, making eight saves in the contest. She ends the season with 97 saves.
The lone goal on the afternoon came at the 67th minute mark from Megan Hook, who scored off a short free kick after receiving a header from Alicia Brock. The second half goal was all IUPUI needed to secure the victory.
With the season over, the women's soccer team will now prepare for the 2010 campaign. The `Dons will return all but one starter next year, as Tammi Kerr played her final game for the Royal Blue and White this afternoon. With 10 returning starters and an experienced coaching staff, the Mastodons should be a team to fear next fall.
