Indianapolis, IN - IUPUI junior forward Robert Glenn muscled in a basket with just seven seconds remaining, and IPFW failed to get off a last second attempt, as the Jaguars topped the Mastodons 57-55 on Thursday night at the Jungle in Indianapolis.
Glenn got the ball in the low block and was trapped by a pair of Mastodons but managed to get his layin to go off of glass.
IPFW pushed the ball up the floor, but couldn't get a good look at the basket. The final horn sounded before senior forward David Carson was able to release the ball.
The loss spoiled a hard fought comeback in a very physical ball game.
The Mastodons trailed 25-16 at the half but junior guard Nick Daniels ignited the IPFW comeback.
Daniels stuck a triple to pull the 'Dons to within three at the 14:57 mark.
Sophomore guard Zach Plackemeier knocked down a jumper and Carson took it strong to the rack as IPFW grabbed a 37-34 lead.
That lead was short lived as IUPUI sophomore guard Leroy Noble sank an NBA 3-pointer to push the Jaguar lead back to four.
IPFW tied it 50 on a thunderous baseline slam by junior Deilvez Yearby.
The 'Dons tied it again on a triple by senior guard Jakari Johnson and a pair of foul shots by Plackemeier, setting up Glenn's heroics.
Glenn led the Jaguars (15-12, 8-8) with a game high 19 points. Forward Jon Avery and Nobles had 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Daniels led the Mastodons with 13 points. Yearby had 12, while Plackemeier finished with 10.
IPFW shot 40.4% from the floor, but turned the ball over 16 times in the contest.
IUPUI converted on 48.9% of their shots. The battle of the boards was even at 30.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 10-16, and more importantly 5-10 in Summit League play. The Mastodons did get some good news as Western Illinois and Centenary, two teams the 'Dons are battling for a spot in the Summit League tournament, both lost as well.
IPFW will travel to Macomb, Illinois on Saturday night for their final road game of the season. Tip off is set for 8:00 p.m. The Mastodons will host UMKC (2/26) and Southern Utah (2/28) to close out the regular season.
