Ann Arbor, MI - The Michigan Wolverines pounded out 14 hits, including two home runs, in taking a series sweep over IPFW 9-2 on Sunday afternoon at Ray Fisher Stadium.
The win pushed the Wolverines to 14-5 on the season, while the Mastodons fell to 5-10.
IPFW scored the game's first run in the 3rd inning on an RBI single by senior catcher Devin Taylor.
But as they have most of the series, Michigan struck right back in their half of the 3rd inning. First baseman Mike Dufek homered for the second consecutive day. His two run shot gave UM a 2-1 lead.
IPFW tied the contest at two in the sixth on an RBI single to right by junior third baseman Jason Doerffler.
Michigan came right back in the bottom of the frame scoring three times. Third baseman John Lorenz started it off with a solo shot to left. Left fielder Kenny Fellows added a pair with a two-out double to right. He was thrown out at third trying to stretch his double into a triple.
Leading 5-2, UM got a single run in the 7th and three in the 8th inning to win going away.
Starter Tyler Baatz was saddled with the loss. He gave up five runs (four earned) on nine hits over six innings.
Michigan reliever Travis Smith picked up his third win of the year. He gave up a run on four hits.
IPFW will travel to West Lafayette to take on Purdue Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
