
Jackrabbits Take Series Finale

Brookings, SD - South Dakota State scored five times in the sixth inning to blow open the final game of The Summit League series with IPFW. The Jackrabbits went on to top the Mastodons, 11-3 on Sunday afternoon at Erv Huether Field.
SDSU (21-27, 14-9) led 4-0 before their five run outburst in the 6th inning.
IPFW got their first run of the game in the 7th inning. Center fielder Ryan Beer led off the inning with a double to right center and scored on a single by shortstop Chris Gottschall.
The Jacks added two more in the bottom of the seventh on a pair of unearned runs.
The 'Dons (11-37, 4-20) got single runs in the 8th and 9th innings on RBIs by Beer and third baseman Mark Carden to make the final 11-3.
IPFW starter Tyler Baatz took the loss (0-5). He gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits over 5.0 innings. Baatz fanned four while walking just one.
SDSU starter Caleb Theilbard got the win (4-7). He didn't allow a Mastodon run over 6.0 innings of work. He struck out eight and walked five.
IPFW will finish out the 2009 campaign next weekend at North Dakota State.
