
Baseball Drops Two to Western Illinois

Fort Wayne, IN - The IPFW baseball team dropped a series opening doubleheader to visiting Western Illinois on Saturday afternoon at Mastodons Field.
The Leathernecks took Game 1, 19-10 and swept the nightcap, 12-6.
Western Illinois (11-27, 6-11 SL) tallied in every inning of the opener except the 8th and 9th innings, and blew open the contest with a six-run 6th inning.
Cener fielder Andrew Hagins drove in five runs and hit his eighth homer of the season for WIU.
Starter Eric Eden gave up four runs on eight hits 6.0 innings for his third win of the season (3-4).
IPFW reliever A.J. Risedorph (1-4) took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits in 2.0 innings of work.
Senior second baseman Chris Gottschall and junior first baseman Shaun VanDriessche each went 3-5. Gottschall drove in four runs, VanDriessche three.
Western Illinois broke open a close Game 2 with a six-run seventh inning.
Starting pitcher Drew Laidig swung the hot bat. He was 4-5 with four RBI, including his sixth homer of the season.
IPFW center fielder Garrett Segraves hit a three-run homer, his second of the season, in the 8th inning.
Laidig went 5.0 innings for his first win of the year (1-2). He gave up two runs on two hits, while walking and striking out four.
IPFW starter Scott Micinski took the loss (1-5). He gave up four runs on 10 hits in 6.0 innings of work.
With the losses, the Mastodons fall to 9-33 and 2-16 in Summit League play.
Sunday will be the final home date for IPFW in 2009. The Leathernecks and Mastodons will play a twin-bill beginning at noon. IPFW will honors its six seniors before the contest.
