Bowling Green, OH - In a game that saw a combined 41 shots, it was the defenses that shined, as the `Dons and Falcons fought 110 minutes to a 1-1 tie.
Bowling Green was the first to put a tally on the board as Falcon senior midfielder Chuko Evwaraye converted on a strike from teammates Cameron Hepple and Byard Ebling. The 11th minute goal, Evwaraye's first of the season, put the Mastodons in the hole early.
Just ten minutes later in the half, IPFW sophomore forward Max Touloute responded with an answer. He took a pass from teammate Raphael Martinez and found the back of the net to even the game at 1-1. The score is Touloute's second of the weekend and third of the season. The sophomore is already closing in on his team best total of five goals from a season ago.
For the remaining 88 minutes of action, the opposing defenses took center stage. Junior keeper Donovan Dowling totaled seven stops on the day. His counterpart, Falcon freshman Jeff Smoker, totaled ten saves. In all, the defenses stopped 39 of 41 scoring chances.
Touloute was a big part of that offensive barrage. In addition to claiming the lone IPFW goal, the junior took eight shots on the game, five of which were on goal, to lead the `Dons. Martinez, who logged the helper on Touloute's score, and Cory Keitz each took three shots as well.
The tie moves the Mastodons to 3-4-1 on the season. They will open the Summit League slate Friday (Sept. 25) as the Centenary Gents will visit Fort Wayne. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
