Fargo, ND - The IPFW men's basketball team rebounded from a tough loss at South Dakota State on Thursday night to top North Dakota State on Saturday night at the Bison Sports Arena, 68-59.
Junior guard Ben Botts scored 19 and sophomore forward Trey McCorkle recorded his first double-double as the Mastodons won for the first time ever at the Bison Sports Arena.
In a back and forth game that saw five ties and four lead changes, IPFW trailed 58-57 with 4:04 to play before scoring seven straight points en route to ending the game on an 11-1 run.
Botts started that run with a little floater in the paint. Junior forward Antwone Snead got an acrobatic layup to go as he hit the floor, then it was Botts again drilling a 3-pointer to put the 'Dons up by six and in the driver's seat.
IPFW hit their foul shots the rest of the way for their first road conference win of the season.
McCorkle was a force on the glass. His 13 rebounds is a career-high. IPFW also got double-digit offensive performances from senior guard Nick Daniels (13) and junior guard Zach Plackemeier (12).
NDSU (6-12, 3-5) got a 23-point performance from sophomore guard Eric Carlson to lead all scorers. He and senior forward Michael Tveidt (14) were the only two Bison to hit for double-figures.
IPFW outrebounded NDSU 41-35 and each team shot 39% in the game.
With the win, IPFW improves to 9-10 overall and 4-5 in Summit League play. IPFW continues its four-game road swing on Thursday night at Western Illinois. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
