
Mastodon Volleyball to host Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Saturday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW women's volleyball will host a Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Saturday, October 29 during its match with Oral Roberts University.
In past events, IPFW volleyball has raised nearly $10,000 over the past three Breast Cancer Awareness events, and $1 from every ticket sold from Saturday's contest, will go directly to the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer, who has raised more than $12 million, and has pledged an additional $10 million endowment to the researches at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis at the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research Laboratories.
About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, and in 2011, an estimated 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 57,650 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
The match starts at 7 p.m. at the Gates Sports Center, and all breast cancer survivors in attendance will be honored between sets two and three of the event.
