Bloomington, IN - Throwing in front of a hometown crowd at the Indiana University Polytan Invitational, senior Sara Branam demolished her own hammer throw school record by nearly nine feet, as the Mastodons competed in the final day of the Invitational.
Branam's toss of 175-feet, 2-inches (53.40 meters) is nearly five feet farther than her previous school record of 166-9 (50.83 meters) set earlier this season. The throw is the third longest in the Summit League heading into the weekend, and the 55th longest toss in the NCAA East Region.
Senior Felicia Mondry moved into third on the all-time performer list at IPFW in the steeple chase with the program's fifth best time, and the best time in the conference this season, clocking a 10:51.74 in the 3,000-meter race, placing third overall, while teammate Kayla Boyes placed ninth in a time of 12:15.66, a season-best for the freshman.
Sarah Hutchings took 27th in the 800-meter run, putting up the fifth fastest time in program history in 2:22.21, a new personal-best, while Jessica McNulty (2:34.16) and Nicole Parry (2.42.36) each ran a new personal season-best.
Junior Courtney Bowen placed fifth in the discus throw, a week after breaking her own school record, finishing with a distance of 144-1 (43.93 meters), giving her five of the top six distances in program history during the current outdoor season. Sophomore Kierstyn Jones competed twice for IPFW, placing 19th in the hammer throw with a toss of 121-6 (37.04 meters), while placing 17th in the shot put with a toss of 34-7.50 (10.55 meters).
Freshman sprinter Jasmine Perry sprinted to a time of 12.73 in the 100-meter dash, the third fastest time in program history, while also recording the third fastest time in program history in the 200-meter dash, running the half-lap in a time of 26.26. She finished her day by competing in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 18.20, becoming the eighth fastest 100-meter hurdle runner in program history. Classmate Kaylin Taylor also competed in the 100-hurdles, finishing just behind Perry with a time of 18.71, becoming the ninth fastest runner in program history.
Next weekend the Mastodons squad splits and travels to two separate meets, with one student-athlete traveling to the Drake Relays, while the remainder of the squad will compete at the Butler University Twilight Meet, hosted by Butler University.
