Women’s Hoops Picked Eighth in Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. – The IPFW women's basketball team was selected to finish eighth overall in the Summit League preseason poll as announced by the league office on Thursday, Oct. 18. South Dakota State was chosen as the preseason favorite and Oakland's Bethany Watterworth was picked as the Preseason Player of the Year.
The Mastodons earned 96 points and a first-place vote in the annual preseason poll of league coaches, sports information directors, and media members. South Dakota State enters the regular season as the favorites by receiving 22 first-place votes. Kansas City and Oakland rounded out the top three. The Kangaroos earned 260 points and one first-place vote, while the Golden Grizzlies were close behind with 234.
North Dakota State held off IUPUI for fourth place in the poll as the Bison earned 221 points compared to 213 for the Jaguars. South Dakota (151) and Western Illinois (138) were also selected ahead of IPFW for sixth and seventh respectively. Omaha rounded out the preseason poll with 43 points.
The regular season will get started on Sunday, Nov. 11 as the Mastodons host SIU Edwardsville at the Gates Sports Center at 2 p.m.
