Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Western Illinois 3-0

MACOMB, Ill. – The IPFW women's volleyball team improved to 23-5 on Friday night by sweeping Western Illinois 26-24, 25-23, 25-19. The Don's are now 12-3 in the Summit League standings with one game remaining on the schedule.
Emily Spencer led the team with 16 kills against the Leathernecks. She hit at a .500 clip while adding eight digs and a service ace. Senior Haley Emenhiser also contributed to the win with a 16 kills and two digs.
Megan Steenhuysen once again set up the IPFW offense with 42 assists. She added three kills and six digs to the box score. Tessa McGill recorded a match-high 17 digs on the night. She chipped in with a kill and two assists helping IPFW secure the victory.
Ann Miller and Samantha Fournier highlighted the night for the Leathernecks. Each player recorded 13 kills against IPFW. Sarah Fetter was just behind Steenhuysen with 41 assists as the Leathernecks dropped to 11-16 on the season.
IPFW, IUPUI and Kansas City have all earned playoff spots into the 2012 Summit League Volleyball Championship Tournament. Oakland will be able to earn a spot in the bracket with a win over Western Illinois on Saturday. The rest of the field is close behind, with a trio of teams coming in at the eight win mark.
IPFW will end the 2012 regular season tomorrow with a match against the IUPUI Jaguars. The regular season champion will be crowned on Saturday as each team enters the final day of the season with a Summit League record of 12-3. IPFW won the first matchup between the two teams on Sept. 18 by a 3-1 margin.
