FORT WAYNE, Ind.
– IPFW will be hosting Fitness Day for Fort Wayne Community School elementary students Tuesday, December 18 at the IPFW Athletics Center prior to the Mastodon women's basketball game against Detroit which starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Gates Sports Center.
Approximately 400 students from five elementary schools (Bloomingdale, Harrison Hill, Indian Village, St. Joe Center, and Waynedale) will have the opportunity to meet and interact with IPFW coaches from various sports, observe demonstrations, and participate in fitness drills from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
“Fitness Day is a way to increase our involvement in the community and help promote a healthy lifestyle for young kids," said IPFW Director of Athletics Tommy Bell. “We are hoping to create more events like this to promote the beautiful IPFW campus to children who will hopefully want to become students here in the future."
Following Fitness Day, the students will be provided lunches, courtesy of Chase Bank, consisting of a Subway sandwich, apples, and water as part of their healthy event at IPFW. Chase is also providing transportation to and from campus for all five elementary schools as well as tickets for the kids to the game.
Fitness Day is sponsored by Chase, WMEE-FM 97.3, WQHK-FM 105.1, Fred Toenges Shoes, and the IPFW Athletic Department.
