Summit League Release
2013-14 WBB Composite Summit League Schedule
ELMHURST, Ill. – After reaching the semifinals of the 2012-13 Summit League Tournament, the IPFW women's basketball team will once again look to compete at a high level against conference opponents this upcoming season as the 2013-14 composite league schedule was released today by the Summit League office.
IPFW will begin the 2013-14 Summit League schedule with a pair of road games before hosting Denver in the league home opener on Thursday, Jan. 16. The Summit League unveiled the composite league schedule on Monday which begins on Thursday Jan. 9 for IPFW and ends in early March with the Summit League Tournament (March 8-11).
The landscape of the Summit League has changed with the addition Denver and the losses of both Kansas City and Oakland. The Mastodons will host the league's newest member after playing at North Dakota State on Jan. 9 and at South Dakota State on Jan. 11. The home stand will end with a contest against South Dakota at the Gates Sports Center on Saturday, Jan. 18.
The 'Dons will have a short weekend after playing at home as a single game at IUPUI is next on the league schedule. The end of January will also have IPFW on the road as the team will travel to play Omaha on Thursday, Jan. 30 followed by a game at Western Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 1.
The defending Summit League champions will visit Fort Wayne on Thursday, Feb. 6 as the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State kick off a pair of home games for the 'Dons. Saturday's matchup on Feb. 8 will be against the Bison of NDSU.
The final two road games of the league schedule will fall in mid-February with IPFW playing at South Dakota on Thursday, Feb. 13 and at Denver on Saturday, Feb. 15. The home stretch of the league schedule looks promising for the Mastodons as three home games will take the team into the Summit League Tournament.
The Mastodons will host IUPUI on Saturday, Feb. 22 and end the regular season with a pair of games against Western Illinois (Feb. 27) and Omaha (March 1). "We have a very challenging start to the Summit League season by having to play five of the first seven games on the road," Head Coach Chris Paul stated. "If we can get off to a good start and win a few road games early, we have five of the last seven games at home which could put us in position to challenge for the Summit League title."
The Summit League Tournament will feature a different format this year with the No. 1 seed receiving a bye into the semifinals. The tournament will begin with a single quarterfinal game on Saturday, March 8 between the No. 2 and No. 7 seed. Quarterfinal action will resume on Sunday with the No. 4 seed facing the No. 5 seed and the No. 3 seed playing the No. 6 seed.
Two semifinal games will be played on Monday, March 10 with the championship game set for Tuesday, March 11 at the Sioux Falls Arena.
