FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW head cross country coach Mike Fruchey has announced the programs' 2013 schedule, highlighted by hosting the 2013 Summit League Cross Country Championships at the Hefner Complex.
The season opens at the Manchester University Hokum-Karem on August 31, a relay-style event where runners are paired, and the two-somes each run a mile before sending the baton with the other member of the group.
A weekend later the Mastodons host the IPFW Invitational on September 7 before hitting the road for the next four meets over a two-month span.
September 20 sends the 'Dons to Bloomington to compete in the Indiana Intercollegiates, before making the short trek to South Bend two weekends later for the Notre Dame Invitational on October 4.
On October 12 the Mastodons compete at the Disney Cross Country Classic hosted in Orlando, before running in the Bradley Classic on October 18 in Peoria, Ill. to set the stage for the 2013 Summit League Championships.
IPFW hosts the League Championships on November 2, a 10,000-meter race for the men, and 6,000-meters for the women. Two weeks later the 'Dons travel to Madison, Wis. for the NCAA Regionals.
Last season the Mastodon women placed sixth at the 2012 Summit League Championships hosted in Rochester, Mich., while the men took ninth overall. The women return six of their top eight runners from last season, including each of the top four IPFW finishers at last year's Summit League Championships. The men return six of the top seven, including Jordan Holloman, who placed first for IPFW in every competition of the season a year ago.
