FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW women's basketball coach Chris Paul has announced the signing of Guilford Technical Community College student-athlete Selena Lozada (Perth Amboy, N.J./Western Guilford H.S.) to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Mastodons starting with the 2015-16 season.
Lozada, a 6-2 forward, comes to IPFW after playing two seasons for nationally ranked Guilford Tech in Jamestown, North Carolina. While at GTCC, she twice was named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region Second Team selection.
"Selena is an experienced post player who will bring added strength and depth to that position," Paul said. "She is a very talented post player who we will expect big things from for the next two seasons. She fits everything we are and have been recruiting here; quality people, students, and basketball players."
Lozada helped the Titans to a 28-4 overall mark and a 19-1 record in conference play last season along with the school's first trip to the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship and advancing to the second round. Lozada and the Titans finished the season ranked ninth in the NJCAA Division II poll.
As a sophomore, Lozada started all 33 games, finishing the year ranked 16th in the nation with 60 blocked shots and 18th in total rebounds with 315. She also ranked 12th in NJCAA Division II in free throws made with 138 in 206 attempts, was 45th averaging 9.5 rebounds a game, and her 135 offensive rebounds stood 15th. For the season, Lozada averaged 10.4 points per game while shooting 44.4 percent from the floor.
Lozada finished the 2014-15 season with 14 double-doubles, had 18 double-digit rebounding games, and recorded a block in 31 of 33 contests. She scored a season-high 21 points against Lenoir Community College and twice grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds.
In her first season at GTCC, she averaged 7.6 points per game and was third on the team with 6.3 rebounds to go along with 20 blocks in 32 games. Lozada added a pair of double-doubles in her freshman season and scored in double figures eight times.
Lozada joins a 2015-16 Mastodon recruiting class that already includes Peyton Fallis, Josie Fisher, and Isis Parker.
