Fort Wayne Falls in Five Sets to Bison

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought five-set match to visiting North Dakota State 3-2 (23-25, 31-29, 25-19, 18-25, 15-12).
Olivia Hahn earned a match-high 39 digs and added a pair of aces to lead the Mastodons. Hahn's 39 digs are tied for seventh most in program history and are tied for eight most in a five-set match this season by an NCAA Division I player.
Lauren Hoffman finished with a team-high 18 kills on the night for the 'Dons while three other players earned a double-double. Nicole Rightnowar had 15 kills to go along with 14 digs, Madison Jaqua earned 43 assists and 19 digs, while Victoria Mills finished with 16 assists and 10 digs.
Somer Johnson just missed a double-double, capping off the match with 19 digs, nine kills and four blocks. Natalie Seiler ended the night with 12 kills and tied a match-high with five blocks. Natasha Medic also went for five blocks while adding 10 kills.
Fort Wayne never trailed in the opening set thanks to a 5-1 early lead. The two teams battled in the second set as they exchanged seven leads and 15 ties. In the end, it was North Dakota State putting together a three-point run to take the frame.
The Bison won the third, aided by an 8-1 run midway through the set. The Mastodons held an early lead before NDSU came back to tie the fourth set 16-16. Fort Wayne finished off the set from there with a 9-2 run and force the decisive set. The 'Dons jumped out to the lead in the fifth but were unable to hang on as North Dakota State closed out the match on an 8-1 advantage.
Fort Wayne will honor its four seniors prior to the final home match of the season against South Dakota, Saturday (Nov. 5) at 7 p.m.
