
Mastodons Kick Off Day One of IPFW Spring Classic

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Day one of the seventh annual IPFW Spring Classic has the Mastodons in sixth place after shooting a team score of 347. The 'Dons sit one shot back of Detroit and are two up on Valparaiso entering the final round.
Hosted by IPFW at the par-71 Pine Valley Country Club, the course is being played at 5,966 yards. Oakland has a six-stroke lead, shooting a team score of 313. Katharina Keilich of Indianapolis leads the 44-player field by two strokes after shooting a 2-over-par 73.
Leading the team scoring for the Mastodons after the opening round is Brenna Sherwood with an 83 and is tied for 15th. Paige Bird stands alone in 23rd place after shooting an 86 for the day. Two shots back in a tie for 28th is Jenna Kurosky. Separated by one stroke are Abigail Carlsen and Madison Chesnutt with rounds of 90 and 91, respectively. Carlsen is tied for 35th while Chesnutt is tied for 37th.
Although playing as an individual, Candi Keller led all Mastodon golfers with a round of 80 and enters the final day tied for eighth. Maggie Connelly carded an 85 over 18 holes and is currently tied for 20th. Also playing as an individual, Hannah Jennings shot a 96 and is in 42nd position.
The final round of the IPFW Spring Classic will be a 10 a.m. shotgun start at the Pine Valley Country Club.
