
IPFW Earns No. 3 Seed For 2016 Summit League Baseball Championship

ELMHURST, Ill. -- IPFW has earned the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Summit League Baseball Championship, May 25-28, at J.L. Johnson Stadium on the campus of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Host ORU is the top seed for the 16th time in program history and second consecutive year. This marks the first time since 2012 the tournament will be in Tulsa and the 13th time overall.
IPFW (31-24, 14-16 Summit League) will be the No. 3 seed for the third consecutive season and advanced to the title game a year ago. The Mastodons, riding a 10-game winning streak, are making only their third appearance in program history. The 31 wins are a new program Division I record, as well. IPFW, with 18 wins in its last 23 games overall, opens tournament play against No. 2 Omaha (28-26, 17-12 Summit League) in game one on Wednesday, May 25, at 1 p.m. ET.
Oral Roberts (34-18, 22-8 Summit League) earned the No. 1 seed after capturing its record 16th regular season title last weekend. The Golden Eagles finished the league season with a 22-8 (.733) record.
Omaha qualified for the tournament in its first year of eligibility. The Mavericks won the regular season titles in 2013 and 2014 and have never finished lower than fourth.
South Dakota State (21-33, 13-17 Summit League) advanced to its seventh tournament in school history in eight years of eligibility. The Jackrabbits have never been the No. 4 seed and will be looking to become just the second fourth-seeded squad to win the tournament (North Dakota State, 2014).
Top-seeded Oral Roberts battles No. 4 South Dakota State in Wednesday's second game at 7 p.m. ET.
The double elimination tournament continues with two games Thursday, one game Friday, and the championship game(s) taking place Saturday. The winner claims The Summit League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
