Mastodons Fall in Summit League Quarterfinals

DENVER - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball team was unable to extend its season as the Mastodons fell to South Dakota (25-23, 21-25, 25-13, 25-21), in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Championship. The loss ends the season for the 'Dons with a 12-19 record.
Nicole Rightnowar earned her 21st double-double of the season with a match-high 20 kills to go along with 11 digs. Madison Jaqua also had a double-double, her 11th of the year, with a match-high 48 assists and 10 digs.
In her final game as a Mastodon, Lauren Hoffman tied a season-high with 13 kills. Fellow seniors Natalie Seiler and Barbara Maximiano ended their careers with five kills and two kills, respectively. Elizabeth Fuerst added nine kills. Defensively, Elizabeth Britner had a match-high 26 digs.
Leading for most of the first set, Fort Wayne led by as many as five, 21-16. The Mastodons were unable to keep their lead as South Dakota closed out the set with three consecutive points, and nine of the final 11. The Mastodons trailed 17-14 in the second set, but Fort Wayne powered back with a 5-0 run to take the lead. USD pulled within two, but the 'Dons finished off the set with back-to-back kills by Hoffman.
In the third, the Coyotes scored the first three points, as they never trailed to take the set. The Mastodons led 4-0 in the fourth set, but were unable to hang on a USD used 5-0 and 4-0 runs to take the lead. The 'Dons fought back to pull within two, 23-21, but the Yotes scored the final two points to take the match.
