Richner Leads Mastodons on Opening Day of Championship

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. - The Fort Wayne women's golf team opened the 2017 Summit League Championship with a team score of 329 to end the first round in ninth place.
Played at the par-72, 6,142-yard Arbor Links Golf Club, Denver is in first place after day one with a one-stroke lead, shooting a team score of 8-over-par 296. Megan Mingo of South Dakota State ended the round atop of individual leaderboard with a 3-under-par 69.
The Mastodons sit six shots back of Omaha and five of Western Illinois.
Linnzie Richner birdied the first hole of the tournament, a 483-yard par-5, on her way to leading Fort Wayne on the day with an 81 and tie for 25th. Monica Dorner finished one shot back in a tie for 33rd as she also recorded a birdie for the round on the par-4, 370-yard No. 15. Madison Chesnutt and Candi Keller enter the second round tied for 36th with rounds of 83, respectively. Abigail Carlsen rounded out the team scoring for the 'Dons with a 90 to sit in 45th place.
The second round of the Summit League Championship begins tomorrow, April 24, at 9 a.m. ET.
