INDIANAPOLIS - The Fort Wayne men's golf and women's golf programs have each been honored with the NCAA Division I Public Recognition Award for their latest multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR), as announced Wednesday (May 16) by the NCAA.
Â
To earn the honor, a program must post multiyear APRs ranked in the top 10 percent of all Division I teams in the respective sports. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.
Â
The men's golf team earns the honor for the first time since 2011. Overall, it is the Mastodon's fourth time being recognized since 2005. They are one of five golf teams in both the state of Indiana and The Summit League to earn the distinction.
Â
The 'Dons are one of three Summit League women's golf teams to earn the honor this year. This is the sixth straight year, and seventh time overall, that Fort Wayne women's golf has been recognized. The Mastodons are one of five Summit League women's golf programs to be honored and one of six in the state of Indiana.
Â
Each year, the NCAA honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.Â
Â
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced May 23.
