FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball head coach Steve Florio has announced the addition of Rachel Williamson (Antwerp, Ohio/Antwerp High School) for the 2018 season.
Williamson, a 6-0 middle hitter, won four varsity letters for Antwerp High School. She hit .320 with 1,462 kills over 326 sets for the Archers. She also added 242 blocks and 85 aces. She was named the Paulding County Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017. Williamson was a three-time District Seven First Team and Green Meadows Conference First Team honoree. As a senior in 2017, she was selected as the GMC Player of the Year and District Seven Player of the Year. She was also named to the All-Ohio Division IV Second Team in 2017.
Additionally, she earned varsity letters in basketball, track and softball. In basketball, she finished as the school's all-time leading rebounder and was the Paulding County Player of the Year in 2018. Williamson was a member of the National Honor Society at Antwerp High School. Her brother Sam is a member of the Mastodon men's cross country program.
Florio on Williamson: Rachel is a wonderful addition to our already strong roster. Her excellent athleticism and height gives her a very high ceiling for development as well as makes her a versatile attacker. While she comes to us as a middle hitter, she has experience hitting from all front row positions providing us with offensive depth. I'm very excited to see all the ways she'll contribute to our success on the court. Further, as a freshman, I'm impressed with her level of maturity and her commitment to strong academics. She is going to fit into our healthy team culture very well.
Williamson joins the 2018 signing class that includes Taylor Duddleston, Madison Gates, Sandra Hoevels and Madelyn Wurster.
The Mastodons open the 2018 regular season August 24th against Indiana State.
