Mastodons Drop Exhibition Match to Falcons

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team took to the court to open their 2018 season in an exhibition match at Bowling Green. Thirteen players saw action in the exhibition match for the Mastodons, as they fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-23).
Madison Jaqua earned a double-double, leading the way with 20 assists to go along with 10 digs. Katie Crowe and Nicole Rightnowar led the 'Dons with nine kills on the afternoon. Sydney Boerst and Elizabeth Fuerst each added four. Elizabeth Britner led the Mastodons with 15 digs, while Rightnowar added 13 and Crowe had nine. Boerst led the team with four blocks.
The Mastodons held an early lead in the opening set, but with the score tied 17-17 BGSU scored the next two points to break the tie, before scoring four of the final five points in the frame. The 'Dons scored the first point of the second set, but the Falcons scored the next six to take the lead and eventually the set. The two teams traded leads in the final set. Down 20-16, the Mastodons fought back to tie it 22-22. The 'Dons were unable to take back the lead as BGSU scored the final two points to take the set and the match.
The Mastodons kick off the regular season when they host the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational Presented by Hyatt Place August 24-25. The 'Dons face off with Indiana State Friday at 7 p.m.
