Women's Golf Falls to Ohio on Final Day of Match Play

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team wrapped up play at the Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge Tuesday morning (Feb. 5), as the Mastodons fell to Ohio 2-1-2.

Hosted by Bowling Green at the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club: Royal Lakes Course, the par-72 course was played at 6,068 yards.

Linnzie Richner earned the Mastodons a victory at the No. 3 spot, winning 2&1 over Catherine Loftus. Richner lost the first hole of the day, but won the next three holes, Nos. 10, 11 and 12, to take a lead she would not relinquish.

Holly Anderson and Paige Bird finished all square in their matches at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively. Bird came back from one down on the final hole to earn the tie. Anderson pulled off a similar late comeback, as she trailed by two holes with four to go. She would win back-to-back points on Nos. 6 and 7 to earn a tie at the top position.

Abigail Carlsen dropped her No. 2 matchup 4&3, while Emma Schroeder fell at the No. 4 spot 3&2.

Purdue Fort Wayne returns to action during Spring Break at the Lonnie Barton Invitational March 4-5 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
