CHESEAUX-SUR-LAUSANNE, Switzerland - Former Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball player Nicole Rightnowar has joined the Swiss volleyball club VBC Cheseaux to continue her playing career.
Rightnowar will compete in the National Women's A League in the Swiss Volleyball Federation, and will leave for Switzerland on Thursday, August 22.
"Purdue Fort Wayne has taught me many life skills that I will need to succeed at the next level," Rightnowar said. "From the support and guidance at Purdue Fort Wayne, I am now able to play volleyball professionally, which has been a dream of mine my whole life. I am beyond thankful for my time and experience in Fort Wayne; I'll be rooting from afar! Go 'Dons!"
As a Mastodon, Rightnowar played in 126 matches, totaling 1584 kills (3.35 per set), 1348 digs (2.85 per set), 156 blocks, and 75 aces. She was the Summit League Offensive Player of the Week three times, an All-Summit League Team selection three times, and the 2015 Freshman of the Year. Rightnowar left Purdue Fort Wayne with the sixth-most kills in program history.
"This is such wonderful news," Purdue Fort Wayne head coach Steve Florio said. "Nicole is a fierce competitor with the ability to play high level volleyball for several more years. This is exactly what she should be doing. Her strong, six rotation skill set, is suited perfectly for the international system. Nicole joins an elite group of Mastodon alumni as she will be our sixth women's volleyball player to play professionally in Europe. I'm extremely happy for her and I wish her and her new club, VBC Cheseaux the best of luck this upcoming season. We'll be rooting for them this year!
Rightnowar will be under the leadership of coach Teemu Oksanen and team captain and setter Oriane Hämmerli.
