FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer goalkeeper Lorah Pund has been doing her part to keep people safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pund works for a grocer in Fort Wayne that started offering curbside shopping for its customers. This gives seniors and those with disabilities or compromised immune systems the ability to still receive the groceries that they require, without risking exposure to the virus. Customers can drive up to a service tent, place their orders, and the employees will gather the groceries and deliver them to the customers.
"At first I just kinda looked at this as an opportunity to work more desirable hours," Pund said. "But once I got started doing it, I saw it as a really great opportunity to help the community during such scary times."
The Fort Wayne native is equipped with a mask and gloves to help prevent the spread. The program has allowed Pund to go above and beyond to serve the customers with which she is interacting.
"It's really rewarding to hear how grateful people are for these services because not everywhere is offering them, and a lot of these people wouldn't feel comfortable getting groceries otherwise," Pund said.
