Mastodons Fall To Northern Kentucky

With the loss, the Mastodons' record drops to 3-6-4 overall and 2-4 in the Horizon League. The Norse's record improves to 8-3-2 overall, and 6-0 in Horizon League play. They extend their win streak to six games and have not lost a match since Aug. 29.
NKU got off to a fast start, scoring two goals in the first six minutes of the game. The goals came from Madelyn Koewler in the third minute and Kayla Wypasek in the sixth minute. The Mastodons would respond with a goal from Kelsey Gallagher in the 14th minute. She scored off a throw in and shot the ball into the lower left part of the net. It was Gallagher's second goal of the season. The Norse would quickly respond with goals of their own in the 19thminute from Sofia Wilmes and 42nd minute from Annie Green. The 'Dons would strike first in the second half when Morgan Reitano scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season at the 47th minute. Reitano's shot would be to the lower right part of the net. NKU would add two more goals in the 65th minute and 80th minute to extend its lead. The second half featured an extended lighting delay.
On the night, the Norse out-shot the 'Dons 18-8 and had a 10-4 shots on goal advantage. Reitano led the team in shots with three, two of those shots would be on goal. Samantha Castaneda would start the game, she saved two shots. In the second half, Belle Plautz would see action in goal for the first time in her Mastodons career and recorded two saves.
The Mastodons will be back in action at the Hefner Soccer Complex on Sunday, Oct. 10 (1 p.m.) for a Horizon League game against Wright State. The 'Dons will celebrate senior day at Sunday's game.
