Ryin Ott Repeats As Horizon League Freshman of the Week
11/22/2021 1:00:00 PM | Women's Basketball
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne freshman Ryin Ott has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the second week in a row, the league announced on Monday, November 22.
After picking up the honor in the first week of her career, Ott followed up the award with a double-double in the Mastodons' 69-63 win over UIC. The La Porte, Indiana native recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds for the 'Dons while going 2-for-5 from the 3-point line. She helped the Mastodons shoot 38.1 percent as a team from beyond the arc.
Ott helped lead the Mastodons to a 1-0 start in League play since 2013-14. She is the first Mastodon to earn a weekly honor twice since that same season, when Amanda Hyde was named Summit League Player of the Week five times.
With the caveat of a two-game sample size, Ott has the best scoring average of any freshman in the program's Division I history at 15.0 points per game. She is also shooting 46.2 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from deep.
Ott and the Mastodons will take the floor again on Wednesday (Nov. 24) when they return to non-league play to welcome a 3-1 Evansville squad.
