INDIANAPOLIS - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball senior Katie Crowe has been named one of the Horizon League's Players of the Week for the third week in a row, the League announced on Thursday (Feb. 17).
Crowe joins Mastodon Hall of Famer Fabiana Souza as the only Mastodons in program history to be named Player of the Week in three consecutive weeks. Crowe now owns five weekly honors for her career, and is chasing Emily Spencer who has the most in program history with nine.
Crowe led the Mastodons to another perfect week, winning their fifth and sixth consecutive matches. Crowe improved upon her league-leading kills per set average, as she finished the week with 5.83 kills per set (35 total). The senior hit .384 for the week, including a .516 (17-1-31) average against Robert Morris on Tuesday. The Leo, Indiana native had 15 digs (2.5 per set) and two blocks against the Colonials, recording her 39th-career double-double on Monday (18 kills, 10 digs). Her 6.08 points per set this week would rank second in the country if extrapolated over a season.
After her three Player of the Week honors, Crowe has a season average of 5.30 points per set and 4.76 kills per set, which both rank in the top 16 in the country. She is leading a Purdue Fort Wayne team that ranks sixth in the nation in kills per set with 14.96.
Crowe and Purdue Fort Wayne will be back in action next week on Monday and Tuesday when Cleveland State visits the Arnie Ball Court in the Gates Sports Center for a pair of matches at 6 p.m.
