FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Damian Chong Qui (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh HS/Mount St. Mary's) and RJ Ogom (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor HS/College of Charleston) have joined the Purdue Fort Wayne men's basketball program for the 2021-22 campaign.
"Damian makes winning play after winning play on both ends of the floor and helped lead Mount St. Mary's to an NCAA tournament this March," Coffman said. "He brings a tenacity to the defensive end of the floor and prides himself on being a defensive stopper. On the offensive end, Damian is a great fit, and we are eager to watch him excel as a creator within our offensive pace. Damian is going to bring a floor general mentality that is proven at the Division I level, the skills to score it and create for others and a relentless mindset to get better every day."
Ogom (6-5, forward) used the 2020-21 season at Charleston as a redshirt campaign. In high school, he was a third team all-state selection. Ogom was a three time all-conference and two-time all-area selection as well as a State Player of the Year candidate. As a senior, he averaged 17.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. His team was ranked as high as No. 2 among Chicago area schools in the NBC Sports Chicago Preps Basketball Power Rankings and No. 85 in the nation. He was tabbed one of "five rising seniors ready to emerge" by the Chicago Sun-Times. He led Homewood-Flossmoor to a 23-8 overall record and to the Class 4A sectional finals during his junior campaign. Ogom played for the AAU All In Athletics squad averaging 11.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
"RJ is a versatile big wing who can really, really shoot it and rebounds at an extremely high level," Coffman said. "We love his physicality coupled with his perimeter skills which makes him an ideal fit for the Mastodons' style of play. RJ will have four years of eligibility coupled with a year of Division I experience, and we are ecstatic to watch him excel and grow during his Mastodon career."
The Mastodons are coming off their first season in the Horizon League where they defeated Green Bay in the opening round of the Horizon League Championship.
