
Mackenzie Evans and Kelsey Gallagher Named to #HLWSOC All-Academic Team

To be eligible for the Horizon League All-Academic Team, student-athletes must participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests, complete one year at the member school and pass 24 credit hours at that institution. Eligible candidates must have completed one academic year prior to the start of their athletic season. Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale.
Evans, a senior from Troy, Ohio, owns a 4.00 GPA in the communication sciences and disorders program at Purdue Fort Wayne. She is a five-time Academic Honor Roll selection between the Summit and Horizon Leagues, and is leading the team with four goals this year. She is also tied with the most points this season with 10 behind four goals and two assists, primarily coming off the bench as a key reserve. She earned five points against Chicago State in the season opener with two goals and an assist, which ties for the best in a single game in the Horizon League this season. This is Evans' first All-Academic Team selection of her career. She has one more season of eligibility should she choose to use the NCAA's blanket COVID-19 waiver.
Gallagher is a redshirt-senior from Orland Park, Illinois and has a 3.98 GPA in elementary education. She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education in the spring of 2022 She was an All-Academic Team honoree in 2021, and is the first player in program history to be named to a league's All-Academic Team twice. She is also a five-time Academic Honor Roll honoree between the Summit and Horizon Leagues. She has three game-winning goals and two assists this season. In Horizon League action, she had the game-winner against Robert Morris and the assist on the game-winner at Oakland.
Purdue Fort Wayne is one of three programs with two representatives on the All-Academic Team. No team had more than two. This is the first time that Purdue Fort Wayne has had two representatives on a league's All-Academic Team since 2012.
The Mastodons (9-3-5, 5-1-3 Horizon League) have guaranteed their best league finish in program history and have a chance to play for a Horizon League regular season championship on Wednesday (Oct. 26). The Mastodons will kick off at Cleveland State at 7 p.m.
